Cusanus birthplace in the Kues district
Nikolaus von Kues was born in 1401 as the son of the merchant and Mosel shipper Johann Cryfftz (Krebs) and his wife Katharina Roemer in Kues. Although his way as a student, archbishop's secretary, papal legate, prince-bishop and cardinal u. a. via Heidelberg, Padua, Cologne, Trier, Basel, Constantinople, Bressanone and Rome, he remained connected to his birthplace and donated there in 1458 the still existing St. Nicholas Hospital. In agreement with his siblings, he endowed the foundation with its rich parental heritage, primarily landed property. The estate also includes a winery. In the "Bernkast'ler Fenster", several retailers work together to not only market themselves together, but also to jointly develop a new product and a new image profile for retail at the site. Direct competitors also work together, e.g. Clothing retailers or home accessories and gifts. The separation in clothing store, shoe store, perfumery, bookstore, furniture store, etc. was yesterday. The "Bernkast'ler Fenster" breaks up crusted industry boundaries and forms a new trading platform, the focus is on the customer's ambience and experience shopping This pioneering retail project was initiated in 2004 - initiated by the development agency - with the idea of vacant space in the historical core of Bernkastel. To use Kues as a model for cooperation, it offers space for experiments with new assortments and forms of presentation.
There are also several shops and boutiques, as well as wine and souvenir shops for shopping.
